Mewtwo Strikes Back begins with the
creation of Mewtwo, a pokemon created
using the DNA of an extremely rare pokemon
called Mew. In the lab, Mewtwo wakes up
and destroys the lab and all the scientists
that had created him. Giovanni, head of
Team Rocket, tries to make Mewtwo become
his pokemon, but Mewtwo refuses to be
enslaved. He destroys the Team Rocket
headquarters and becomes intent on destroying
the entire human race and taking over the world.
We meet Ash, Misty, and Brock who are eating
lunch. A dragonite sends them an invitation
that the world's greatest pokemon master wants
to challenge Ash on a certain island. Ash
eagerly sets out for the ferry, Misty and Brock
trailing behind.
Unfortunately, a horrible storm brews, and the
ferry cannot cross the waters raging waves.
Several pokemon trainers set out for the island
on their pokemon. Ash and co. get there through
help of vikings from Minnesota (Jessie and
James?).
Ash, Misty and Brock get there safely, but Team
Rocket stumbles upon a replica of the lab that
Mewtwo was created in under the island. They
stumble upon a bunch of cloned pokemon, and
Meowth gets cloned.
Only a few trainers made it to the island safely.
The storm happened to be a test that the trainers
would have to undergo in order to be worthy of
meeting the Pokemon Master. They are told
to take their pokemon out of their Poke Balls.
Mewtwo turns out to be the "World's Greatest
Pokemon Master" who challenges all the trainers
w/ his cloned Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur.
His cloned pokemon win because they were
created to be stronger than the originals. Mewtwo
uses his psychic powers to capture all the trainer's
pokemon, but Pikachu tries to run away from the
floating poke balls. Ash runs behind Pikachu,
but Pikachu gets captured, so Ash follows Pikachu
down the shoot to the replica of lab where Team
Rocket was.
All the pokemon go through the process of being
cloned. Ash tries to save Pikachu from being cloned,
but somehow Pikachu gets cloned anyway,
and Ash destroys the machine in his desperate
attempts in saving Pikachu.
Ash leads a revolt (cloned pokemon vs. the originals)
and all the pokemon are engaged in vicious battle: a
battle to the death. Pikachu is the only pokemon who
refuses to fight because it realises that fighting is wrong.
Mew appears and Mewtwo fights it. After all the
pokemon tire out, Mew and Mewtwo are the only ones
left fighting. Ash tries to stop them, but gets blasted by
the combination of Mew and Mewtwo's psychic powers,
and dies.
Pikachu is devastated by the death of his best friend,
and tries to wake him up, but to no avail. Pikachu starts
to cry. All the other pokemon realise that Ash gave up
his life for them and start to cry too. Misty is in severe
shock. Miraculously, all the tears of the other pokemon
fall on Ash and he begins to glow. Lastly, Pikachu's
tears finally fall on him, and he comes back to life.
Mewtwo, realising what he was trying to do was wrong,
gathers all the cloned pokemon and Mew. They escape
to a land unknown, and all the trainer's and pokemon's
memories of that fateful day are banished.
They awake back at the place where the ferry was about
to take off, but they go to the Pokemon Center to rest
for awhile.
